Queen hit a NEW MILESTONE – “Another One Bites The Dust” hits 500 million views on Queen YouTube Channel. Thank you John Deacon and Queen. Your music lives on! It’s Timeless !!!

When you look at Queen’s incredible music back catalogue, you might not realise it but their biggest hit was written by John Deacon. The retired bassist penned Another One Bites The Dust in 1980, which went on to be the band’s best-selling single with over 7 million copies sold. And now the catchy track has passed another incredible milestone that Brian May and Roger Taylor have celebrated; one that no doubt Freddie Mercury would have been proud of!

This week, Another One Bites The Dust’s music video passed an epic 500 million views on the official Queen YouTube channel.

Posting a celebratory video, Brian May wrote: “Self-explanatory ? Thanks to all you folks who made this happen – you know who you are!”
While Roger Taylor shared footage too and captioned it: “Wow! Thank you to all of you who have helped us reach this milestone!”
Interestingly, the Queen drummer had little faith in John’s hit when the bassist first introduced it to the band.

In this week’s episode of Queen The Greatest, Brian said: “John was pulling us strongly in that direction, a sort of funky direction.
“And John got Roger to play with tape all over his drums, which is exactly what Roger hated. Roger hated his drums being made to sound dead.”

Roger said: “I didn’t really want to get into dance music. Wasn’t my thing.”

Even when Michael Jackson suggested the band put Another One Bites The Dust out as a single, Roger wasn’t convinced.

Roger remembered: “Michael came to several shows I think at the Forum in LA, and he loved Freddie. And he kept saying, ‘You guys, you got to put that song out! And I wasn’t particularly enamoured with it, so I said ‘No, you’re kidding, that’s never a single.’”

The 72-year-old even once said he thought at the time that Michael Jackson’s idea was “nuts”, in his commentary on Queen Absolute Narrative.

Nevertheless, Queen took MJ’s advice and Another One Bites The Dust made music history!

A few fantastic commentaries from John and Brian :

“I listened to a lot of soul music when I was in school, and I’ve always been interested in that sort of music. I’d been wanting to do a track like ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ for a while, but originally all I had was the line and the bass riff. Gradually, I filled it in and the band added ideas. I could hear it as a song for dancing but had no idea it would become as big as it did. The song got picked up off our album and some of the black radio stations in the US started playing it, which we’ve never had before. Michael Jackson actually suggested we release it as a single. He was a fan of ours and used to come to our shows.”

“Freddie would certainly fight for things he believed in. Like ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ which was a bit of a departure for Queen. Roger, at the time, certainly felt that it wasn’t rock and roll and was quite angry at the way it was going. And Freddie said, “Darling, leave it to me. I believe in this.” John had written the song. But it took Freddie’s support to make it happen. Fred just went in there and hammered and hammered until his throat bled, making… you know, he really was inspired by it and took it to a new height!” (That’s our Freddie)
