9 March 1973 – EMI began negotiations with Trident about a new recording contract for Queen.

Queen were ushered into the new EMI Records Ltd. to sign their very first recording contract. It was all over quickly and without much fanfare , but suddenly Queen found themselves with a record deal covering the UK and Europe. They were excited, it seemed that at last they were getting somewhere and all that hard work was about to pay off. Brian and Roger were a little more apprehensive — they had seen it all go so badly with Smile after it had got this far.

EMI was eager to release the Queen debut album quickly but, due to problems within the company on the finalization of the plans for the new label, the release would now be held up.
