The year 1982 started with hard work — the band returned to Munich to concentrate on their new album. Also working there was American artist and good friend Billy Squier, Roger and Freddie found time to give him some ‘emotional support’ and sing backing vocals on a track called “Emotions In Motion”, from the album of the same name that Billy was working on.
Then the band spent time off in America — Los Angeles, where Roger, Brian and John all purchased homes — a combination of the love of the sunshine and good living, and there was the chance to write off some money against UK tax bills. They also spent time discussing the forthcoming European tour (Hot Space, which would kick off early April), and the video they were going to make for their new single, ‘Body Language.’ They only spent a very short time in Los Angeles before jetting off to the UK for a brief stay.
Their contract with EMI for the UK and Europe had to be renewed. Queen signed on 1 April 1982 for a further six albums, beginning with the one they were working on at that time (‘Hot Space’, which was to be released in May).
