8 September 1976 – Queen at Les Ambasadeurs Club, London, United Kingdom. The band were presented with gold, silver and platinum discs for sales in excess of one million for their epic hit ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ it spent a staggering nine weeks at #1
A funny story by David Minns: “When Freddie received a gold disc for ‘A Night At The Opera’ from his record company EMI. He was unconvinced that the record beneath the glass was his own. After he had prised the frame open “sorry, it accidentally broke itself, Sir Joseph, may we have another one?
Freddie insisted I played it; he was deeply impressed and somewhat taken aback that it was indeed a copy of ‘A Night At The Opera.’ He never again accused EMI of being cheapskates.”
