7 September 1984, Queen performed their third Sold-Out show @ Wembley Arena, London
“The Works!” tour
The band was originally scheduled to only perform two evenings but due to extremely high ticket demand, a third and fourth show were added to the bill.
Highlights:
Freddie partied hard on his birthday, and likely as a result his voice is not in great shape tonight. He completely flubs the intro to ‘It’s A Hard Life,’ and even sings the amended lines in the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ verses like he did in Japan 76/79. The strength of his voice would fluctuate for the remainder of the year.
Brian, before ‘Love Of My Life’: “We don’t usually make dedications, as those of you who see us every night know, but we’d like to dedicate this just once to all of you who have sweated long and hard to get here and see us. I hope it’s worth it.” He then acknowledges his daughter who is on hand to see the band for the first time. “I’d like to dedicate this to someone else too. It’s a little lady with very big eyes and blonde hair and only three years old. Louisa May, this is for you.” Brian plays a bit of Brahms’ Lullaby for her during the interlude.
Freddie makes his usual speech in response to the rumours in the press about how the band may break up, and he adds, “In fact, we hate each other so much we gotta keep together.” (We know Freddie wasn’t serious )
