“I’d been wanting to do a track like ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ for a while, but originally all I had was the line and the bass riff. Gradually, I filled it in and the band added ideas. I could hear it as a song for dancing but had no idea it would become as big as it did. The song got picked up off our album and some of the black radio stations in the US started playing it, which we’ve never had before. Michael Jackson actually suggested we release it as a single. He was a fan of ours and used to come to our shows.”

“From time to time, and for some reason he’s always talking to me. I had one dream not long after he died where he kept saying, You’ve got to be there Brian, you’ve got to be there… And I woke up in a daze thinking, Where have I got to be? I was quite keen to get back to the dream and find out what it was I was supposed to be doing.”

Because we hear him every day, it is almost as if he is around.

Because we hear him every day, it is almost as if he is around.

I don’t have to play his records because they are on the radio every day.

I am proud for everything that comes up for my boy. The whole world seems to know him.

They know who Freddie Mercury is.

My boy was a genius.”

Queen “Live At Wembley” double CD is released in the USA

Queen “Live At Wembley” double CD is released in the USA

19 August 2003 – Queen “Live At Wembley” double CD is released in the USA with bonus tracks From Live In Budapest ‘Tavaszi Szei Vize’; from Friday Wembley show: ‘A Kind Of Magic’, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’.

This amazing concert was recorded live on Saturday 12, July 1986 during the ‘Magic Tour’ at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The album was originally released on 26 May 1992.

One year after their show-stealing Live Aid performance at Wembley, Queen returned to the venue to perform two sold-out shows to 150,000 fans in only two nights (July 11-12, 1986). The band broke all previous attendance records during their ‘Magic’ Tour.

An even bigger stage was specially designed for the two Wembley Stadium shows. But the crew hit some roadblock upon discovering the architect’s plans for the stadium were wrong (they were four feet out). The stage had to be redesigned, and it was finally finished just before soundcheck was due to start.

“The Wembley concerts in 1986 were the pinnacle for us. We were at our height band-wise, and Freddie had developed this phenomenal way of dealing with stadium audiences. Being back home in London playing two sell-out nights was such a big, big occasion for us. None of us realized that this would be almost the last time we played together.” ~ Brian May

In fact, ‘Magic’ would sadly be the bands final tour with the legendary Freddie Mercury. The two Wembley concerts stand as a fitting testament to one of rock’s greatest frontman at the height of his powers.

After the band perform the epic hit, ‘Another One Bites The Dust,’ Freddie says the following:

“You know something? There’s been a lot of rumours lately, about a certain band called Queen. The rumours are that we’re going to split up, what do you think? They’re talking from here! My apologies, but I say what I want. You can forget those rumours, we’re going to stay together until we fucking well die, I’m sure of it! I keep wanting…I must tell you, I keep wanting to leave but they won’t let me. Also, I suppose we’re not, we’re not bad for four aging Queens, are we, really, what do you think?

You like to have thousands of people chanting your name?

You like to have thousands of people chanting your name?

Melody Maker: You like to have thousands of people chanting your name?

Freddie Mercury: Of course, It’s wonderful. The adrenalin’s there. Absolutely wonderful. But I suddenly think ‘I’ve got all this power, I can Destroy!’ It’s not a destructive thing I’m too wonderful for that darling. I’m too good.

Melody Maker: Freddie, I understand you were upset about a story in The Sun that claimed you had ‘confessed’ to being homosexual.

Freddie Mercury: I was completely misquoted. But from the beginning, the press have always written whatever they wanted about Queen, and they can get away with it. The woman who wrote that story wanted a total scoop from me and didn’t get anything. I said: “What do you want to hear? That I deal cocaine?” but for God’s sake, If I want to make big confessions about my sex life, would I go to The Sun, Of all Papers, to do it? There’s no fucking way I’d do that. I’m too intelligent.

Melody Maker: But this is a good time to be gay. It’s good for business.

Freddie Mercury: Isn’t it? Isn’t it? But it’s wrong for me to be gay now because I’ve been in the business for 12 years. It’s good to be gay or anything outrageous if your new. But even if I tried that, people would start yawning ‘Oh god here’s Freddie Mercury saying he’s gay because it’s trendy to be gay’

Melody Maker: Haven’t you always played with that image though?

Freddie Mercury: When I started off, rock bands were all wearing jeans, and suddenly here’ Freddie Mercury in a Zandra Rhodes frock with make-up and black nail varnish. It was totally outrageous. In a way |Boy George has just updated that thing, the whole glam-rock bit. George is more like a drag queen. It’s the same outrage it’s doubled.

Melody Maker: But does Freddie Mercury need Queen at all?

Freddie Mercury: “You?rat! I suppose so, yes. I used to think we’d probably go on for five years, but it’s got to the point where we’re too old to break up.” (laughter). “Can you imagine forming a new band at 40? Be a bit silly wouldn’t it?”

My relationship with Freddie was love at first sight.

Freddie was a whole universe, he didn’t look like any other artist before him and there will never be anyone like him, his legacy is an incredible proof of that.

I met him several times in the 70s and 80s.

It was so spectacular to see him at her premiere of the song “Barcelona’ in Ibiza, so in love with Montserrat, grabbing her hand.

He was great, he radiated magnetism.

We had a lot in common, like our love for cats! And for the jewels!

I remember once we met and wore the same bracelets, kind of like a snake but different in color and was very surprised by the coincidence.

He was special and very creative.

He was an artist, a visual artist.

He was like a sponge, a genius.

But offstage, he was very shy and introverted but still magnetic ….

He was also the only man who in the 70s painted my nails with black nail polish and i did for him too.”
